A Bright Light Dimmed: Canton, Georgia Mourns the Loss of Katelynn Dollar, Gone Too Soon

CANTON, GA — July 23, 2025 — The community of Canton is in mourning following the heartbreaking loss of Katelynn Dollar, a cherished daughter, friend, and vibrant soul who tragically lost her life after a quiet, courageous battle with depression.

Known for her radiant spirit, creative talents, and kind heart, Katelynn’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In the face of unimaginable grief, her family has chosen to speak openly — not only to celebrate who she was but to bring attention to the importance of mental health awareness.

“Our beautiful, loving, kind, talented daughter Katelynn lost her battle with depression,” the family shared in a public message. “She was a light in our lives and the lives of so many others. While we are devastated by her loss, we choose to honor the incredible person she was and the love she gave so freely.”

Celebration of Life Set for Saturday

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 19th, at Canton Funeral Home and Cemetery at Macedonia Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m.

In keeping with Katelynn’s vibrant personality, the family requests that attendees wear bright and colorful clothing rather than traditional black attire.

“She loved light, color, and laughter,” a close friend shared. “This celebration is about remembering all the joy she brought into the world.”

Creative, Compassionate, and Unforgettable

Katelynn, a lifelong resident of Canton, was admired for her artistic talents, passion for music, and deep empathy for others. Friends say she had an extraordinary ability to connect with people — listening without judgment and offering comfort without words.

“She gave so much to others, even when she was hurting,” said one family friend. “Her kindness was unmatched, and she made you feel seen and valued.”

Despite her outward strength and smile, Katelynn quietly fought through personal pain — a battle many never realized until it was too late. Her passing is a tragic reminder of how invisible mental health struggles can be.

Family Speaks Out to Raise Awareness

In the wake of their loss, Katelynn’s family is calling on the community to talk more openly about mental health and to break the silence that so often surrounds depression.

“Mental illness doesn’t make someone weak. It makes them human. Katelynn was incredibly strong,” her parents said. “If you’re struggling, please reach out. There is no shame in asking for help.”

Mental health advocates are echoing that call, especially as depression and anxiety continue to rise among teens and young adults nationwide.

Her Legacy Lives On

Though her time on earth was far too short, Katelynn’s impact is lasting. Her memory lives in the hearts of all who knew her — in every smile she gave, every laugh she shared, and every beautiful piece of art or music she left behind.

As Canton comes together to honor her life, her family hopes that her story not only brings people closer — but also saves lives.
