Gunfire Erupts Outside Michi’s Tacos in Menifee: Police Investigating Possible Targeted Shooting
MENIFEE, CALIFORNIA — July 23, 2025 — A popular Menifee taco spot turned into the scene of an active police investigation Thursday night after gunfire rang out outside Michi’s Tacos, sending shockwaves through the quiet community.
According to the Menifee Police Department, the shooting occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the busy restaurant located in the 27000 block of Encanto Drive, a well-frequented area surrounded by local businesses and eateries.
Multiple 911 calls were made reporting gunshots and panic in the area. Officers responded within minutes, arriving to find the scene in disarray with frightened patrons taking cover and some vehicles hastily leaving the lot. As of late Thursday night, it remained unclear how many shots were fired or whether anyone was struck during the incident.
“This was a very active scene when our officers arrived,” said a Menifee Police spokesperson. “We are working diligently to determine what happened and whether this was a targeted act or a random display of violence.”
Witnesses said the gunfire appeared to stem from a confrontation between individuals in the parking lot, but law enforcement has not confirmed the motive. Officers secured the area with police tape and began canvassing for surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.
No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests had been made as of 11:00 p.m. Investigators are pursuing several leads and have not ruled out the possibility that the shooter fled the scene before officers arrived.
While there have been no official reports of injuries, emergency medical personnel were observed on standby as a precaution.
Michi’s Tacos, known for its vibrant street food and family-friendly atmosphere, has long been a community favorite. The shooting left staff and customers shaken, with many calling for increased police presence in public gathering areas.
“We were just finishing our food when we heard what sounded like five or six pops,” said one customer who asked to remain anonymous. “Everyone started running. It was terrifying.”
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information—including dashcam or cellphone footage taken near the restaurant at the time of the shooting—is asked to contact the Menifee Police Department at (951) 723-1500 or leave an anonymous tip with Riverside County Crime Stoppers.
