MAHWAH, NJ — July 24, 2025 — A 20-year-old Mahwah man has been captured and charged following a shooting incident earlier this month outside a Saddle River residence, stemming from an ongoing dispute between two groups of men. The manhunt concluded today with the arrest of Shazeik Davis, who now faces multiple serious charges including first-degree attempted murder.

The incident occurred on the evening of July 15, outside the home of 19-year-old Jeremiah L. Rivera, located on Chestnut Ridge Road in Saddle River. According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, the shooting was part of a larger confrontation involving two carloads of men who had arrived at the residence amid a tense dispute.

At approximately 6 p.m. on July 15, two vehicles, both carrying several men, arrived at the home owned by Rivera’s mother. A verbal dispute quickly escalated.

“Jeremiah Rivera retrieved a handgun and fired one shot in the direction of the men, who promptly drove away,” Prosecutor Musella said. However, the men soon doubled back, reigniting the conflict.

During the renewed confrontation, Davis fired nine shots from his firearm. One bullet struck one of the vehicles, but fortunately, no one was injured during the exchange of gunfire.

Rivera was arrested the day following the shooting and charged with aggravated assault, illegal weapons possession, and lying to detectives during the investigation. He spent one night in Bergen County jail before being released on July 17 under court-imposed conditions.

Davis, the primary suspect in the shooting, was arrested today in Mahwah by a team of prosecutor’s detectives supported by a Bergen County Regional SWAT unit. Davis was formally charged with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, and illegal weapons possession. He was booked into Bergen County jail pending further court proceedings.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office credited a news blackout during the initial stages of the investigation as critical to the success of the manhunt.

“The shooting was connected to an ongoing dispute between two groups of men,” Musella explained, declining to specify the exact nature of the conflict.

Police agencies from multiple jurisdictions collaborated in the investigation, including the Saddle River Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff’s forensic teams, who meticulously gathered and analyzed ballistic evidence. Additional support came from law enforcement units in Mahwah, Franklin Lakes, and Rochelle Park.

Though the gunfire erupted in a suburban area, residents of Saddle River and surrounding towns expressed relief that no injuries resulted. The quick and coordinated police response to apprehend the suspect further reassured local communities.

Both Davis and Rivera face serious criminal charges related to the July 15 incident. The legal process will determine the outcome of these charges as the case progresses through the Bergen County court system.

Authorities continue to urge residents to report any information that may aid ongoing investigations into disputes that threaten public safety.
