Man Charged with Murder After Body Found in Wrecked Car on I-83 — Police Say Crash Was Staged
BALTIMORE, MD — July 26, 2025 — A Baltimore man is behind bars this week after what initially appeared to be a tragic car accident on Interstate 83 was revealed to be a carefully staged cover-up to conceal a brutal homicide.
Tyler Liggins, 29, of Baltimore, has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault in connection to the death of 43-year-old Travon Booth.
Booth’s body was discovered on July 19 inside a crashed vehicle on northbound I-83 near the Ruxton Road exit. Although the crash at first seemed to be a solo accident, an autopsy later determined Booth had died from multiple blunt-force injuries. His death was ruled a homicide.
Surveillance Footage and Confession Unravel the Truth
According to Baltimore Police and multiple law enforcement sources, the investigation quickly shifted when Maryland State Police discovered Booth’s injuries were not consistent with a traffic accident.
Detectives traced the origin of the incident to the 1100 block of West Northern Parkway, where surveillance footage showed Booth involved in an altercation with two men. That footage also allegedly showed Liggins and another individual dragging Booth’s unresponsive body into his car, then fleeing the scene.
In an interview with investigators following his arrest on July 23, Liggins reportedly admitted to the assault. He confessed to repeatedly punching Booth in the face, chest, and stomach during a confrontation inside an apartment. Liggins told detectives that Booth appeared unresponsive afterward, prompting him and his foster brother to put Booth back into his car. Liggins then drove the vehicle and crashed it intentionally in an attempt to disguise the killing as a car accident.
Arrest Made Without Incident
Liggins was arrested at his residence without incident and transported to Central Booking Intake Facility, where he remains in custody.
Court documents and statements from police indicate that Liggins’ motive is still under investigation, and additional suspects may be involved. So far, no further arrests have been made.
Loved Ones Seek Justice, Police Ask for Help
Travon Booth’s death has shaken family and friends, who say he didn’t deserve such a violent end. While authorities haven’t released details about Booth’s background or hometown, those close to him describe him as a quiet, respectful man who largely kept to himself.
Baltimore Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with additional information about the events on July 19 or in the days leading up to it to contact the Homicide Unit at 410-396-2100. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
