Texas Man Allegedly Murders Wife, Lives with Body for Over a Month Before Arrest

HOUSTON, TX — July 26, 2025 — Authorities in Texas have arrested 49-year-old Charles Byrd after he allegedly confessed to killing his wife, Angela Byrd, and living in the home with her deceased body for more than a month. The chilling case has shocked the local community and is now under active investigation by Houston police.

Deadly Confrontation Sparked by Jealousy

According to police, Byrd told investigators that he returned home unexpectedly on June 16, 2025, and suspected that Angela was preparing to meet another man. The confrontation escalated into a violent domestic dispute, during which Byrd allegedly choked and bit Angela in a fit of rage. He later admitted that his actions resulted in her death.

What followed was even more disturbing: Byrd did not contact authorities or seek help. Instead, he continued to live in the home with Angela’s body, attempting to conceal the odor of decomposition and avoid detection for 32 days.

Concerned Family Member Sparks Police Response

The case came to light after a worried relative, unable to reach Angela and growing increasingly suspicious of Byrd’s behavior, contacted law enforcement. Officers responded to the home and, upon entry, made a grisly discovery — Angela Byrd’s body was found wrapped in plastic, bound in carpet, and secured with straps.

The smell inside the residence made it immediately clear that the body had been there for an extended period.

Charges Filed, More Expected

Charles Byrd was arrested at the scene and is currently being held at the Harris County Jail. He has been charged with tampering with evidence, and authorities say murder charges are likely pending the results of a full autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Investigators say Byrd has fully confessed to the killing, but the exact timeline of events and other details remain under review.

Community in Mourning

The disturbing nature of the case has left neighbors stunned. Angela Byrd, described by friends and relatives as kind-hearted, loyal, and deeply loved, had reportedly shown no outward signs of trouble in the weeks prior.

“It’s devastating,” said one neighbor. “Angela was always friendly. We had no idea something like this was going on behind closed doors.”

A Stark Reminder of Domestic Violence

Authorities are using this case as an urgent reminder of the importance of reporting suspected domestic violence. “This is an incredibly tragic example of what can happen when abuse goes unchecked,” a Houston PD spokesperson said. “We urge anyone who suspects someone may be in danger at home to speak up.”

Investigation Ongoing

As detectives continue to gather evidence, the focus now turns to building a full criminal case. Additional charges could be filed in the coming days, and prosecutors are expected to pursue the maximum penalties under Texas law.
