Tragic Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Woodville Man on U.S. Highway 167 in Union Parish

 

 

 

 

BERNICE, LA — July 26, 2025 — A fatal motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 167 near Bernice has claimed the life of David Voorhies, a 69-year-old resident of Woodville, Mississippi. The Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to the crash shortly before 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to preliminary reports released by authorities, Voorhies was traveling northbound on U.S. 167 aboard his 2008 Honda motorcycle when, for reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle veered off the roadway. The bike collided with a nearby cattle gate, resulting in fatal injuries to the rider.

Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Voorhies sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

Louisiana State Police Troop F troopers were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash occurred south of Louisiana Highway 2, near Bernice. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the single-vehicle motorcycle crash had resulted in a fatality.

Emergency responders worked swiftly, but Voorhies was declared deceased on-site due to the severity of his injuries. The crash scene was secured for a thorough investigation, and routine toxicology samples were collected from the victim to aid in the ongoing investigation.
