LAWNDALE, CA — Sunday, July 27, 2025 — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred inside a 7‑Eleven store in Lawndale on Sunday night. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirms that an unidentified man was shot and killed shortly after 8:00 p.m. in what officials are calling a targeted attack. The suspects remain at large as of Sunday night.

The incident took place in the 15800 block of Prairie Avenue, a busy commercial corridor near Manhattan Beach Boulevard. Deputies from the LASD South Los Angeles Station responded to a call reporting gunfire inside the convenience store. When they arrived, they discovered an adult male inside suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Despite efforts by emergency personnel to render aid, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surveillance Footage Captured Incident

Initial information suggests that the victim was involved in a brief encounter or argument with two unidentified male suspects before the shooting occurred. Surveillance cameras inside the 7‑Eleven captured parts of the incident, and detectives are currently reviewing the footage.

Both suspects reportedly fled the scene before deputies arrived. Officials have not released any detailed descriptions of the suspects, and as of 11:45 p.m. PT, no arrests have been made.

Victim’s Identity Withheld Pending Notification

The identity of the man killed has not yet been made public. Authorities stated that they are working to notify the next of kin before releasing his name. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy in the coming days to confirm the cause and manner of death.

Community in Shock as Investigation Continues

Lawndale residents have expressed shock and sadness over the incident, especially given the location — a well-known and frequently visited 24-hour store. Many local business owners and customers say they’ve never seen this level of violence in the area.

“It’s scary. I stop at this 7‑Eleven all the time,” said a resident who lives nearby. “It’s always open, always busy — you don’t expect something like this to happen right in front of you.”

The area was cordoned off for several hours Sunday night as homicide investigators processed the scene and canvassed nearby businesses for any surveillance footage or eyewitness accounts.

Public Asked to Help Identify Suspects

The LASD Homicide Bureau is leading the investigation and has asked for the public’s help. Anyone who may have been in the area between 7:45 and 8:15 p.m. PT is urged to review their cell phone videos, dashcams, or security footage. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Homicide Bureau directly at (323) 890‑5500.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted via Crime Stoppers by calling 1‑800‑222‑TIPS (8477) or using the P3 Tips app.

Officials say there is currently no indication of a continuing threat to the public, but emphasized the urgency of identifying and locating the suspects involved.

Ongoing Efforts to Address Local Safety

The shooting has reignited discussions around public safety in South Bay communities. Community leaders are calling for additional resources, including improved lighting, expanded patrols, and outreach to help prevent similar incidents.

As of late Sunday night, investigators were still on the scene, and the 7‑Eleven store remained closed as evidence collection continued.

This is a developing story. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.
