Covington Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash at Lacombe Intersection: Louisiana State Police Investigating
LACOMBE, LA – A tragic three-vehicle crash at a busy St. Tammany Parish intersection claimed the life of a 39-year-old Covington woman early Saturday morning. The fatal collision happened on August 2, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., at the intersection of LA Highway 36 and LA Highway 3241.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop L, the crash resulted in the death of Jennifer L. Ayo, who was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. Ayo was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other drivers involved were also injured.
Crash Details
State Police say the Camaro, driven by Ayo, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 3241 and entered the intersection with LA Hwy 36. At the same time, a 2010 Honda Fit was headed westbound, and a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck was eastbound on LA Hwy 36.
For reasons still under investigation, Ayo’s vehicle entered the westbound lane and collided with the oncoming Honda. The force of the crash pushed the Camaro into the eastbound lane, where it was hit again by the Ford pickup.
Ayo, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Honda, who was properly restrained, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The Ford’s driver, also wearing a seatbelt, suffered moderate injuries.
Ongoing Investigation
As part of standard procedure, toxicology samples were collected from all drivers and are pending laboratory analysis. The Louisiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident.
At this time, it is unclear whether impairment, distraction, or speed were contributing factors.
State Police Emphasize Roadway Safety
In a statement following the crash, Louisiana State Police reminded the public of the importance of wearing seatbelts and driving attentively, especially when entering intersections.
“Tragedies like this are painful reminders of how quickly lives can be changed,” said an LSP spokesperson. “We urge all drivers to stop fully at intersections, scan carefully for oncoming traffic, and ensure all occupants are buckled up — no matter how short the trip.”
They added that seatbelt usage remains one of the most effective tools in preventing fatalities on Louisiana roads.
Motorists are encouraged to report dangerous drivers or hazardous conditions to the LSP hotline by dialing *LSP (*577).
