In Loving Memory of Marjorie Kaye “Hutch” Collins (1954–2025)
A Life of Love and Devotion
Kaye was the heart of her family — a selfless, loving mother to her three children: Jason, Mackenzie, and Josh, and a proud and doting “Noni” to her grandchildren: Cameron, Nolan, and Hadley — with another grandchild on the way. Her world revolved around her family, and her love for them was unconditional and unwavering.
She spent the last two decades alongside the love of her life, James “Jimi” Collins. Their bond was a beautiful testament to true companionship, full of laughter, affection, and deep mutual admiration. In their years together, they built a life rich in memories and joy — a happiness Kaye often said was the most she’d ever known.
Rooted in Mount Airy, North Carolina
Born on January 20, 1954, in Mount Airy, NC, to Marjorie Ruth Hutchens and Harold Hutchens, Kaye’s life was shaped by her Southern roots, her faith, and the close-knit community she loved. A 1972 graduate of Mount Airy High School, she played clarinet in the marching band and was a standout in the theater department. Her high school years were filled with talent, friendships, and the beginnings of a lifelong passion for connecting with others.
After graduation, she attended Surry Community College, continuing her path of growth and discovery. Everywhere she went, Kaye made friends effortlessly — her inner and outer beauty, radiant smile, and genuine kindness were impossible to overlook.
Professional Life and Personality
Kaye worked for many years as a Sales Ad Executive at Time Warner Cable Adcast, where she was admired for her excellence in customer service and her charming sales skills. Colleagues fondly remember her as the “tater lady” — a playful nod to her well-known love for potatoes — and praised her ability to sell with grace, humor, and persistence. As one friend put it, “She could sell a ketchup popsicle to a lady in white gloves.”
But of all her roles, it was being a mother that she loved most. She wore that title with honor, serving as both mother and father to her children when needed. Her strength, nurturing heart, and joyful spirit built the foundation of a family deeply bonded by her love.
Faith, Food, and Music
Kaye loved music — singing and dancing to her favorite tunes — and never missed the chance to indulge in a delicious meal, especially if it ended with chocolate. A fan of baseball, football, and good food, her enthusiasm for life’s simple pleasures was infectious.
Her generous spirit, honesty, resilience, and humor will be deeply missed. She had a strong and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, which gave her comfort and peace. Her family finds solace in knowing she is now in His arms, free from pain and suffering.
A Legacy of Love
Kaye was preceded in death by her infant daughter Jennifer Dawn and her beloved parents. She is survived by her devoted husband Jimi Collins, her three children and grandchildren, and a growing legacy of love. She also leaves behind countless friends and extended family members who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate nurses at Pruitt Health Care in Elkin for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Kaye during her final years.
