LAKE CHARLES, LA — With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, the community of Lake Charles is mourning the devastating loss of Connor Welsh, a bright and beloved young man whose life was cut short far too soon in a senseless act of violence early on the morning of August 3, 2025.
Connor, a former student of Alfred M. Barbe High School, was just 17 years old and full of life, joy, and ambition. He was described by those who knew him as “an extremely happy kid” who was stepping confidently into young adulthood with positivity and purpose.
“With the heaviest heart I’ve ever had in my life, I have to share some tragic news. Our precious Connor has left this world. He went out in a senseless, horrible, tragic, and violent way. His life was taken away. No doubt, we’ll never be the same,” said a family member in an emotional public statement.
Connor was a young man who found joy in every day. He was becoming a responsible adult, embracing life, and most importantly, he was a believer in Christ—a pillar of strength and comfort for his grieving family.
He lived in Marrero, Louisiana, but remained closely connected to his roots in Harvey, Louisiana, where he was originally from. Friends describe him as someone who made people feel seen, appreciated, and uplifted just by being around them.
