Mer Rouge Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in Morehouse Parish
BASTROP, LA — A tragic crash in Morehouse Parish has claimed the life of 47-year-old Christopher Johnson of Mer Rouge, Louisiana. The fatal single-vehicle incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, August 2, 2025, along Louisiana Highway 3051, just west of Thibodeaux Road.
According to the Louisiana State Police Troop F, troopers responded to the scene shortly before 4:00 p.m. following reports of a severe crash. The preliminary investigation revealed that Johnson was operating a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria heading westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and collided with a tree.
Tragically, Johnson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. No other passengers were reported in the vehicle.
Routine toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for laboratory analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet released further details on what may have led to the crash.
Seat Belt Safety Reminder
Following this heartbreaking incident, Louisiana State Police are again urging all motorists to prioritize seat belt use. Wearing a seat belt remains the most effective way to protect yourself in a motor vehicle crash. According to LSP, using a seat belt can reduce the risk of serious injury or death by up to 50%.
“Whether traveling across town or across the state, buckling up should be second nature. It’s a habit that saves lives. Every trip, every seat, every time,” said a spokesperson with Louisiana State Police Troop F.
As the community of Mer Rouge mourns the loss of Christopher Johnson, investigators continue working to piece together the circumstances that led to this tragic crash. Funeral arrangements for Mr. Johnson have not yet been announced.
