JONESBORO, GA — Tragedy struck the Jonesboro community Monday night when 33-year-old Demontez Grier, a devoted father of two, was shot multiple times and killed in broad daylight just streets away from his mother’s home.

According to Clayton County Police, Grier was found fatally wounded in front of a house on Connell Drive around Monday evening. The chilling attack has left his family and neighbors shaken and searching for answers.

“That was my brother. I feel like I lost a twin,” said Celeste Grier, Demontez’s sister. She described the neighborhood, where their mother has lived for 12 years, as a place now marked by fear and grief. “I don’t know if I can even stomach riding through the neighborhood at this point,” she said.

Eyewitnesses told police Grier was shot four times in what appears to have been a targeted killing. Security footage from a nearby residence captured a black SUV arriving shortly before the shooting and then fleeing the scene minutes later toward Tara Boulevard.

One neighbor who witnessed the shooting reported hearing an argument inside the SUV moments before the attack and immediately called 911. Police recovered evidence at the scene, including a large amount of cash found with Grier, though officials have not confirmed whether this was connected to the motive.

The investigation intensified when Clayton County officers pursued the suspects in a high-speed chase that ended on Centennial Drive in Stockbridge. Authorities arrested one suspect and are actively searching for a second individual believed to be involved in the shooting.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice.

Demontez Grier’s death is a devastating loss to his family and community. Known as a loving father and son, his violent death underscores the urgent need to address gun violence in the area.

As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful that justice will be served.
