YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A tight-knit Pennsylvania community is mourning the loss of two beloved residents after a tragic shooting and house fire claimed their lives early Saturday morning, August 3, in New Freedom.

Southern Regional Police said the incident happened inside a home in the first block of North Main Street. Investigators believe it was confined to the residence and poses no ongoing threat to the public.

The York County Coroner identified the victims as 54-year-old Michael Shores Jr. and 41-year-old Jennifer Troch. Autopsies on August 4 at Lehigh Valley Hospital confirmed both died from gunshot wounds to the head. The manner of death remains under investigation.
