KENDALL, Fla. — A quiet Friday morning turned into a scene of horror in a Kendall neighborhood after a fast-moving house fire claimed two lives and left the community in shock.
The fire broke out around 9 a.m. in the 10800 block of Southwest 67th Drive, sending thick black smoke into the air as flames rapidly consumed the single-family home. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews rushed to the scene, working tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses.
Once firefighters gained control, their search of the charred interior led to a grim discovery — the bodies of two victims. Authorities quickly identified one as 58-year-old Aileen Cruz. Days later, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed the second victim as 29-year-old Sebastian Luis Domenech.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with fire marshals and homicide detectives combing through the debris to determine whether the blaze was accidental or involved suspicious circumstances.
Neighbors described the victims as friendly and deeply rooted in the community. “It’s just heartbreaking,” one longtime resident said. “You never think you’ll wake up to something like this.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
