SPRINGFIELD, Ky. — The Springfield community is grieving the loss of Robert Mudd, who passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Saturday, August 16, 2025, following a courageous battle with ALS. Surrounded by the love of his family in his final moments, Robert’s journey came to an end with dignity and peace, leaving behind a legacy of strength, faith, and compassion.

His devoted wife, Kelly Essex-Mudd, shared a deeply emotional tribute, expressing both her heartbreak and her gratitude that Robert is now free from suffering.

“Though my heart is broken, I am at peace. His soul has been set free from all of his pain and suffering. God carried him home, his forever home. I love you Robert, I’ll always love you,” Kelly said.

A Battle Faced With Faith and Grace

Robert’s battle with ALS tested him and his family in ways few could imagine, yet he faced each day with remarkable courage. Friends and loved ones recall how he carried himself with resilience and unwavering faith, never allowing the disease to overshadow the kindness and compassion that defined him.

Kelly’s tribute also touched on a deeply personal and spiritual belief—that Robert was welcomed into his eternal home by the child they never had the chance to hold in this life.

“When you’re ready, when it’s time to let go, I want you to remember something I hold deep in my heart: you’re not alone. There’s someone waiting for you, someone small, full of light and love… Our baby,” she wrote.

Remembered as a Man of Love and Integrity

Robert Mudd will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and a man whose gentle spirit left an imprint on all who knew him. His legacy is one of integrity, love, and quiet strength—values that will continue to inspire the Springfield community long after his passing.

“I will miss you more than words can say,” Kelly said in her farewell. “But I want you to go knowing that you are loved beyond this world, that I will carry your love with me always, and that one day, when it’s my turn, I will find you again.”

A Community United in Grief

The announcement of Robert’s passing has touched many across Springfield, with neighbors, friends, and community members reaching out to share condolences and prayers. His life and story of perseverance have left a lasting impression, drawing together a community bound by both sorrow and gratitude for having known him.

Funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced in the coming days as family, friends, and the community prepare to honor Robert’s life and the values he stood for.

In Loving Memory

Robert Mudd’s journey is a powerful reminder that love can endure even in the face of the greatest challenges. His life was defined by devotion, compassion, and courage, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

As Kelly so movingly expressed:

“If it gets hard… if it feels like you’re drifting… just listen for that little soul calling you home. And remember, we are never truly apart. I’ll hold your hand until the very last breath, and your heart for the rest of my life.”

In loving memory of Robert Mudd — forever cherished, forever loved.
