TOMBALL, Texas — A quiet Sunday afternoon turned tragic in Tomball after a 3-year-old child was found unresponsive in a backyard pool and later pronounced dead, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

Discovery and Emergency Response

Deputies say the incident happened around 3 p.m. at a home near Tomball Parkway. Family members discovered the toddler in the pool and immediately called 911. Constable Mark Herman said relatives attempted CPR until emergency crews arrived.

Paramedics rushed the child to a nearby hospital, but despite extensive life-saving efforts, the child did not survive.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy for this family,” Herman said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this heartbreaking time.”

Investigation Underway

Investigators believe the drowning was accidental, though the case remains under review. Authorities are looking into how long the child may have been in the water before being found and whether pool safety barriers were in place.

No charges have been filed, and officials say their focus remains on supporting the grieving family.

Community Grieves

Neighbors expressed shock at the tragedy, describing the area as a close-knit community where families often gather outdoors. “It’s just devastating,” one resident said. “No parent should ever have to go through this.”

Drowning Risks in Texas

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for young children in Texas, according to the Department of Family and Protective Services. Safety experts urge families to implement multiple protective measures, including pool fencing, alarms, and constant supervision.

“Drowning happens quickly and quietly,” said a local safety advocate. “Even a few moments of distraction can lead to tragedy.”

Looking Ahead

Counseling resources are being made available to both first responders and the family. Officials say the investigation will continue, but the loss is a sobering reminder of the dangers water poses for children.

“This is a community in mourning,” Herman said. “Our hope is that by raising awareness, we can prevent another family from experiencing such heartbreak.”
