Tremonton, Utah — Authorities have identified Ryan Michael Bate as the suspect in a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two Tremonton-Garland police officers earlier this week. Officers Lee Sorensen and Eric Estrada were fatally shot while responding to what was initially reported as a domestic violence call.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Bate was armed with a high-powered rifle when law enforcement arrived at the scene. He allegedly opened fire on the officers, killing both in the line of duty. A Box Elder County Sheriff’s Deputy also sustained injuries, but officials report they are non-life-threatening. Tragically, a bullet struck the K9 unit inside the police vehicle’s rear compartment, though the dog is expected to survive.

Bate has been booked on multiple serious charges, including two counts of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, and assault. Law enforcement officials say he remains in custody pending further proceedings.
