GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College community is mourning the sudden loss of William Perry Morgan, 64, a respected theater professor and director of the Musical Theatre Program, who tragically died in a car accident late Friday night.

Morgan, who dedicated his life to the arts and to inspiring young performers, was described by colleagues, students, and friends as a mentor whose influence extended far beyond the classroom.

One of his students shared a heartfelt memory, recalling how Professor Morgan went out of his way to ensure no one felt left behind: “I only had two classes with him since I was enrolled late, but he sat with me in class and made sure I had everything I missed, how to access everything, and even said that if I needed anything not to hesitate to reach out to him — all within five minutes of me walking into class. He had us bow in and bow out of class every day. I truly believe he has bowed into eternal life. He’s the kind of professor that college students need, and he will truly be missed.”

Morgan was not only a teacher but a guiding light for many aspiring performers. His daily rituals in the classroom — such as the ceremonial bowing in and bowing out — reflected his deep respect for the art of theater and his commitment to instilling discipline, humility, and appreciation for the craft.

News of his passing spread quickly across Greensboro College’s campus and the wider arts community, with many expressing grief and shock at the loss of a man who gave so much of himself to his students and to the stage. Faculty members described him as a gifted educator who combined creativity with compassion, encouraging every student to believe in their potential.

Beyond his role at Greensboro College, Morgan was deeply involved in regional theater productions, mentoring countless young actors and directors. Many of his former students have gone on to perform professionally, carrying with them the lessons and inspiration they received under his guidance.

In a statement, Greensboro College administrators extended condolences to Morgan’s family, colleagues, and students: “Professor William Perry Morgan’s contributions to our college and to the arts community will never be forgotten. His passion for teaching and for musical theater touched countless lives. He leaves behind a legacy of excellence, creativity, and kindness.”

Plans for a campus-wide memorial service are expected to be announced in the coming days, giving students, faculty, and alumni the chance to honor his life and legacy.

For those who knew him personally and for those who only experienced his work on stage, William Perry Morgan’s sudden passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life — and of the enduring power of art and mentorship to change lives.
