SAN FRANCISCO — A burst of gunfire left at least four people injured Tuesday evening in San Francisco’s India Basin neighborhood, police confirmed.
According to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), officers were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. following multiple reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered four victims suffering from gunshot wounds. All were rushed to local hospitals. Their conditions remain undisclosed at this time.
Witnesses Describe Chaos
The shooting occurred near the waterfront in India Basin, a neighborhood in the city’s southeast undergoing rapid development. Residents reported hearing multiple rounds of gunfire before chaos broke out.
“I thought it was fireworks at first, but the shots kept going,” one witness told reporters. “People were screaming and running everywhere.”
Investigation Underway
Police quickly sealed off the area, marking shell casings and interviewing witnesses. Surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses is also being reviewed.
So far, no arrests have been made, and investigators have not released a suspect description. Detectives said they are still working to determine what led to the violent outburst.
“This brazen gunfire endangered not just the victims, but the entire community,” an SFPD spokesperson said. “We are committed to finding those responsible.”
Neighborhood Shaken
The shooting has unsettled India Basin residents, who say the sound of gunfire has become an all-too-familiar occurrence in parts of San Francisco. Business owners in the area temporarily closed shop as police combed the crime scene for evidence.
