GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Stockton University was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon following reports of a shooting near campus, sparking fear among students and parents and prompting a heavy police response.

According to Galloway Township Police, the incident began with an off-campus shooting. Authorities are now actively searching for two suspects believed to be connected to the violence. The suspects were last seen in a white sedan that entered Vera King Farris Drive at Jimmie Leeds Road, traveling north through campus.

Police described one of the suspects as a white male with long blond hair, wearing a green shirt. The vehicle has not yet been located, and both university and local police are urging students, faculty, and staff to remain in place until an all-clear is given.

Students Ordered to Shelter in Place

The university quickly issued emergency alerts instructing the campus community to “Continue to shelter in place” as the search unfolded. Reports from parents and students flooded social media, with many sharing the anxious moments as classrooms went into lockdown.

Some students reported hearing about a possible drive-by shooting near the school, while others noted that the incident may have stemmed from an altercation unrelated to campus before the suspects fled in the direction of the university.

My daughter is sheltering in her art class. She mentioned a shooter—no more details at present,” one parent shared online, capturing the fear felt across the community.
