WILSON, N.C. — The Wilson community is reeling after a violent triple shooting on Washington Street Monday afternoon left two people dead and one injured. Authorities have confirmed the victims as Natasha Latrice Sutton, 44, and her son, Avantae Pender, 21, both residents of Wilson.

The Incident

Police responded to reports of gunfire in the early afternoon and discovered Sutton and Pender deceased at the scene. 37-year-old Tiffany Fogg was also shot and transported to Wilson Medical Center, where she is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Suspect Arrested

Donta Maurice Chestnut, 39, founder of the local nonprofit Our Wilson, was taken into custody by Wilson police in connection with the shooting. Chestnut has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Sutton and Pender, as well as one count of attempted first-degree murder for the shooting of Fogg. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the attack.
