MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Morehead community is reeling after the tragic deaths of Kayla Blake, 34, and her 13-year-old daughter, Kennedi McWhorter, who were found dead in their home on Friday. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect, 44-year-old Joshua W. Cottrell, has been identified and taken into custody in connection with the double homicide.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office announced that officers quickly identified Cottrell as a suspect following the discovery of the bodies. He was arrested just hours later, ensuring, according to police, that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
