ST. LOUIS, Mo.— Authorities have charged 23-year-old Dejha Tucker with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 23-year-old Keyshawn on Friday, September 19, in St. Louis’ Greater Ville neighborhood.
Details of the Incident
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 4200 block of St. Ferdinand Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found Keyshawn suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.
Investigators say Tucker, accompanied by two other individuals, confronted the victim during the early evening hours. Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives allegedly shows Keyshawn raising his hands in the air, signaling that he was unarmed. Despite this, police say Tucker ran toward him and fired a close-range shot after he had already fallen to the ground.
Charges and Arrest
On Saturday, police confirmed Tucker has been formally charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. A second woman, 27, was also taken into custody for her involvement, though her charges have not yet been released.
Shortly after the shooting, officers located Tucker at a separate location, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to the hospital for treatment before being released into police custody.
Community Shock and Concern
Residents of the Greater Ville neighborhood expressed shock at the violent escalation. The neighborhood has been struggling with issues of violent crime, and many are calling for increased community outreach and intervention programs to prevent such tragedies.
“This is heartbreaking,” one resident said. “Another young life gone, another family devastated. We need to find ways to stop these cycles of violence.”
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are continuing to investigate the events leading up to the shooting, including the roles of the two other individuals present during the confrontation. Police have not yet disclosed what sparked the initial dispute.
Detectives are also reviewing additional evidence, including surveillance video and witness statements, to determine whether further charges will be filed against those involved.
