GULFPORT, Miss. —  The Gulfport community is reeling after the tragic loss of Kjersten Aileen-Hermance Strang, who died in a devastating hit-and-run accident on 49th Street. The incident, described by authorities as both shocking and heartbreaking, has left friends, family, and neighbors mourning the young woman’s untimely death.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), Strang was riding her E-bike in the southbound curb lane of 49th Street when the collision occurred. Investigators said that the driver, identified as Rigby, struck Strang, causing her to be violently ejected from her E-bike. Strang’s body landed on the windshield of the vehicle, highlighting the severity of the impact.

Tragically, Rigby continued driving for about eight blocks with Strang on the vehicle before she was eventually removed. Authorities say that Rigby left the scene without calling 911 or waiting for law enforcement, leaving emergency responders and the community stunned. Strang was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rigby was located by police shortly after the incident. During the investigation, he refused to submit to sobriety tests. He remains in custody on charges related to the fatal hit-and-run, as previously reported by PCSO.

The motive or circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has additional information to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
