MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. —  The Minneapolis community is still reeling after prosecutors announced charges against Trayveion Alvin Green, 24, who is accused of opening fire in a Phillips neighborhood attack that killed one person and injured six others.

Green, a Minneapolis resident, has been charged via warrant with one count of second-degree murder and six counts of attempted second-degree murder, according to newly released court documents.

A Day of Tragedy in the Phillips Neighborhood

The shooting erupted around 1:22 p.m. on August 26 near 29th Avenue South and Clinton Avenue South, just behind Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. What should have been a normal afternoon quickly turned into tragedy as bullets ripped through the neighborhood.

Police found one man fatally wounded at the scene. Six others, ranging from young adults to older residents, were rushed to local hospitals with gunshot injuries. Authorities later said they recovered 27 spent .223-caliber shell casings, evidence of the devastating firepower unleashed that afternoon.

The Alleged Role of Green

According to investigators, Green was not acting alone. Court filings allege that Ryan Timothy Quinn, 33, and Tiffany Lynn Marie Martindale, 30, helped facilitate the attack.

The pair allegedly picked up Green around noon on the day of the shooting and dropped him off near the scene twice. Witnesses told police they saw Green carrying a black bag shortly before the gunfire.

Prosecutors also claim Martindale removed the license plate from their car in an attempt to avoid detection.

The Charges

  • 1 Count of Second-Degree Murder (for the victim who lost his life)
  • 6 Counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder (for the surviving victims)

These charges highlight the severity of what prosecutors call a planned and deliberate act of violence.

Community Response

For many in Minneapolis, this case feels painfully familiar. The Phillips neighborhood, like other parts of the city, has been battling rising gun violence in recent years.

“This happened steps away from a school,” one resident said. “It could have been so much worse. Families and kids deserve to feel safe here.”

Community leaders are urging the city to invest in prevention programs and neighborhood safety measures, while grieving families of the victims wait for justice.

What Comes Next

Green remains in custody as prosecutors move forward. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has not ruled out additional charges against Quinn and Martindale for their alleged involvement.

The identity of the man killed has not yet been released, pending notification of family. An autopsy confirmed his death was the result of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police continue to ask for the public’s help. Anyone with additional information, video, or witness accounts is encouraged to contact investigators.
