Decatur, Ala. | September 29, 2025 – Authorities in Decatur are investigating after a man was found dead following a burglary call on Sunday night, according to the Decatur Police Department (DPD).
At approximately 7:40 p.m. on September 28, officers responded to a residence on 22nd Avenue after a caller reported a burglary in progress. According to police, the caller told dispatch that they had shot the suspect during the incident.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn pronounced the man deceased at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Police have not released the identity of the deceased, citing the ongoing nature of the case. Officials are also reviewing details provided by the homeowner or resident who discharged the firearm.
“This is an active investigation,” said a spokesperson for the Decatur Police Department. “We are working to gather all facts and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
Authorities have not confirmed whether any arrests have been made or whether additional suspects are involved. The investigation includes interviews with witnesses and a review of evidence from the scene.
