Quincy, Illinois – A violent shooting Monday night at the intersection of 8th and Lind has left two people hospitalized and a community searching for answers. The Quincy Police Department (QPD) confirmed that the incident unfolded around 8:07 p.m. on September 29, drawing a massive emergency response and locking down the neighborhood for hours.
What Happened
Officers rushed to the scene after multiple calls reported shots fired. When police and emergency crews arrived, they discovered two victims—a male and a female—with gunshot wounds. Both were treated at the scene before being rushed to Blessing Hospital by Adams County EMS. Their current conditions remain unknown.
Initial witness reports suggested a third possible victim, but investigators confirmed only two individuals were injured.
A Heavy Emergency Response
The shooting sparked a full-scale emergency effort. Units from QPD, the Quincy Fire Department, and three EMS teams converged on the area, securing the intersection and providing urgent medical care.
Investigators, including multiple detectives, the department’s crime scene technician, and the Special Investigations Unit, worked late into the night collecting evidence, canvassing the area, and speaking with potential witnesses.
Ongoing Investigation
QPD has called the investigation “thorough and complex” but stressed that the work is still in its very early stages. As of Monday night, no suspects have been taken into custody, and the shooter remains at large.
The department has urged residents to stay away from the 8th and Lind intersection, which remains restricted as the crime scene is processed.

In a press statement, QPD asked residents not only for assistance but also for compassion: “We ask the community to join us in praying that both victims of this tragic and violent incident make a full recovery.”
Further details are expected to be released Tuesday as investigators continue their work.
