Peoria, IL — The community of Peoria and beyond is mourning the loss of Shaun Newell, a respected leader, advocate, and former news director at WMBD, who passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was known not only for his distinguished career in media but also for his unwavering commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and abuse through his service with the Center for Prevention of Abuse (CFPA).

Shaun most recently served as the Immediate Past President of CFPA’s Board of Directors, where he became a driving force behind the organization’s mission to provide safety, support, and hope to survivors. His colleagues describe him as a compassionate listener, a fair leader, and a tireless advocate who always placed others’ needs above his own.

Even while facing his own health challenges after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the beginning of the year, Shaun continued to dedicate himself to the work of the CFPA, ensuring that survivors were treated with dignity and provided the resources they needed to rebuild their lives.
