FORKLAND, Ala. — Authorities have released the names of both the victim and suspect involved in a fatal shooting in Greene County that occurred Monday afternoon, prompting an active homicide investigation led by state officials.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the victim has been identified as 31-year-old Boris Moody of Forkland. Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) began the inquiry on October 6, following a request from the Forkland Police Department.

Investigators say Moody was found near the Dollar General in the 13000 block of U.S. Highway 43 suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased.

Authorities have identified 28-year-old Jamal Lee, of Demopolis, as the suspect in the case. Lee was taken into custody and charged with murder before being booked into the Greene County Jail, where he remains held. Officials stated that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

“The investigation is ongoing,” ALEA officials confirmed in a statement. “Once all findings are complete, the case will be turned over to the Greene County District Attorney’s Office for review.”

The shooting has shaken the quiet town of Forkland, where many residents knew Moody personally. Friends and neighbors described him as friendly, hard-working, and always respectful — someone whose sudden passing has left a deep void in the community.

“It’s just heartbreaking,” one local resident shared. “You never expect something like this to happen here. Everyone knew Boris — he was a good person.”

Authorities have not released any information about what may have led to the confrontation, nor the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, in cooperation with the Forkland Police Department, continues to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

As the investigation moves forward, community members are left mourning the loss of Boris Moody, a young man whose life was cut short in a moment of violence that has left lasting sorrow across Greene County.
