RICHMOND COUNTY, GA — A close-knit community in Richmond County is grappling with heartbreak following a tragic incident that claimed the lives of three family members on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Authorities report that 55-year-old Sheri Methvin was the likely shooter in a devastating case that resulted in the deaths of her sister Sandra Moulton, her stepfather Carmen Ray, and ultimately, herself.
The incident occurred at a residence on the 600 block of Bennock Mill Road, where Richmond County deputies and the Coroner’s Office responded to reports of multiple deaths. According to Coroner Mark Bowen, two of the three deceased have been positively identified: Carmen Ray, 77, of Augusta, and Sheri Methvin, 55, of Augusta. The third individual, an adult female, has not yet been positively identified, but authorities believe she is Sandra Moulton, Sheri’s sister and Carmen Ray’s stepdaughter. Autopsies have been scheduled for all three individuals.
Investigators indicate that the incident appears to be a double homicide–suicide, with Sheri Methvin being the likely shooter. Sheriff’s Chief of Staff Lewis Blanchard emphasized that there is no ongoing danger to the public, noting that the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
While the investigation is ongoing, friends of Sandra Moulton have already begun mourning her loss publicly. Described as “the most peaceful, kind, gentle human,” Moulton is remembered for her warmth and compassion. Social media has become a space for friends to share their grief and memories.
