Authorities in Jacksonville, Texas, are responding to a critical incident after a Jacksonville Police Department officer, identified as Jacob Cahill, was shot on November 2, 2025. The suspect, Bobby Michael Dennis, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
The incident began around 6 p.m. Saturday evening when officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Brentwood area. Officers located the vehicle near Moncrief Road and 13th Street and began following it while awaiting backup. As the pursuit continued toward MLK Parkway, the suspect accelerated, leading to a short chase that ended when the stolen vehicle crashed into an officer’s cruiser and struck a nearby building on Myrtle Avenue.
Following the crash, several individuals fled the vehicle on foot. During the ensuing confrontation, gunfire erupted, and Officer Cahill was struck. Emergency personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition has not been publicly released.
Authorities confirmed that one suspect was also injured and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Another officer sustained a broken nose during the crash, while others involved in the incident were unharmed.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Director Edwin Cayenne and Chief Alan Parker held a press briefing to address the situation, noting that this incident marks the 15th officer-involved shooting in Jacksonville this year.
The State Attorney’s Office is overseeing the investigation to establish the full chain of events, after which the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own internal review.
Law enforcement officials are continuing their search for Bobby Michael Dennis, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any sightings. Authorities warn that Dennis should not be approached, as he may be armed.
