TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – November 4, 2025
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has confirmed the arrest of Dedario Jermartinez Hunter, 40, of Gretna, in connection with a shooting that occurred during a memorial service in Gretna on November 1, 2025. Hunter is facing charges related to the incident, which left several people injured and one person dead.
The tragic event unfolded at a large memorial service honoring a victim of a separate homicide that occurred two weeks prior. According to FDLE, the gathering turned chaotic when Hunter allegedly arrived at the scene armed with a semi-automatic weapon and opened fire into the crowd.
Authorities reported that four individuals were struck by gunfire, with one victim succumbing to their injuries. In addition, another person was struck by a vehicle as it attempted to flee the scene during the chaos.
FDLE investigators, working alongside the Gretna Police Department and the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, quickly identified Hunter as the suspected shooter. On November 3, Hunter surrendered himself at the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office without incident, bringing an end to the immediate search for the suspect.
The State Attorney’s Office of the Second Judicial Circuit is prosecuting the case. Officials emphasized that the investigation is still active, and additional arrests or charges may be forthcoming as more information becomes available.
Authorities expressed deep concern for the victims and their families and thanked the community for its support and cooperation during the ongoing investigation.
For further information, media inquiries should be directed to the FDLE Office of Public Information.
