FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Cumberland County community is heartbroken following the tragic passing of Steven Wayne Morrison Jr., lovingly known by many as “Turtle Boy.” His body was discovered along Clinton Road near the 3500 block, close to Ms. Sudy’s Country Store, marking a devastating end to the weeks-long search for the 27-year-old Fayetteville resident.

Steven was first reported missing on October 17, sparking widespread concern among family, friends, and neighbors. In the days following his disappearance, loved ones launched an intensive search effort, distributing flyers and sharing his photo across social media in hopes of bringing him home safely. He was last seen wearing all black clothing and was known to frequent the Murchison Road corridor, as well as the Vander and Eastover areas.

Authorities from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a missing person’s report had been filed shortly after Steven vanished. After nearly three weeks of desperate searching, their worst fears were realized when Steven was found deceased.

Born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Steven was known for his bright personality, his sense of humor, and the deep love he showed to his family and friends. Those who knew him describe him as “a loyal friend, a loving son, and someone who always made people laugh even on their worst days.”

“We called him ‘Turtle Boy’ because he was always laid back, never in a rush, and full of smiles,” said one close friend. “He had a big heart and was always there for everyone.”

The heartbreaking discovery has left the community mourning and seeking answers. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his passing and have not released additional details at this time.

Family members have expressed their gratitude to everyone who helped in the search and are now asking for privacy as they grieve the loss of their beloved Steven.

“Our hearts are shattered,” one family member shared. “Steven was loved deeply, and we’ll carry his memory with us forever. He didn’t deserve this — he deserved the world.”
