OTTAWA, ON — The Ottawa Police community is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Retired Officer Andy Jasiak, a respected and much-loved former member of the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Andy passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, compassion, and integrity that spanned more than three decades of public service.

The Ottawa Police Veterans Association shared the sad news with its members, expressing deep sorrow and solidarity:

“We are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of our friend and fellow retiree, Andy Jasiak. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this very difficult time.”

Andy began his policing journey with the Ontario Provincial Police in 1988 before joining the Ottawa Police Service during the 1999 amalgamation. He went on to serve with distinction for 34 years, retiring in July 2022. Known for his professionalism, humor, and unwavering kindness, Andy made a lasting impact on both his colleagues and the community he served.

Much of Andy’s career was spent fulfilling a lifelong dream — serving as a Motor Officer in Traffic Enforcement, where his passion for the job and commitment to safety were evident to everyone who worked beside him. In his retirement message, Andy reflected on his career with humility and gratitude:

“As I officially replace my computer screen for some sun screen, I leave with the same enthusiasm for the next stage of my life as I did when I was hired. I’ve had an incredible career and always felt so fortunate to do what I dreamed of as a boy — being a ‘Motor Officer’ for almost two-thirds of my career. Policing gave me nearly everything, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”

He also offered heartfelt advice to his fellow officers — words that now carry even more weight in the wake of his passing:

“Family and personal health — spiritual and physical — should always be your priority. You can have a rewarding career without compromising your integrity. Serve and protect everyone, no matter the circumstances. Stay true to yourself. Remember, there’s 90% that is good — don’t get caught up in the 10% negativity. It’s just not worth it. Soar with the eagles; don’t gobble with the turkeys!”

Andy’s positive spirit, leadership, and sense of humor left a profound mark on everyone he encountered. Colleagues describe him as a mentor, a friend, and a man who truly embodied the heart of community policing. His words of wisdom and kindness will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.

The Ottawa Police Veterans Association noted that funeral arrangements and service details will be shared once available.

🕊️ In loving memory of Retired Officer Andy Jasiak — a dedicated public servant, a cherished friend, and a true inspiration to all who knew him. His legacy of integrity, compassion, and service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow officers.
