SHIRLEY, Ark. — The community of Shirley and surrounding areas are mourning the loss of Russell B. Branscum, 68, a lifelong Arkansan remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, and deep devotion to family. Russell passed away at his home near Shirley on November 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will not be forgotten.

Born and raised in Timbo, Arkansas, Russell grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the simple values of small-town life. He later made his home in Shirley, where he built a life of hard work and dedication. Friends and neighbors describe him as someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand — humble, soft-spoken, and grounded in the things that truly matter.

Russell’s life revolved around family. He found joy in spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, and lending quiet guidance to those who sought his wisdom. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of many who admired his character, generosity, and gentle spirit.

Tragically, Russell’s death is now the focus of an ongoing investigation by authorities. According to the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance on November 6, 2025, after deputies discovered Russell deceased inside his residence at 14114 Highway 110, just outside Shirley.

During the course of the investigation, ASP Criminal Investigation Division (CID) agents identified his son, Brian J. Branscum, 31, of Clinton, Arkansas, as a suspect. Investigators later located Brian at a hotel in Hot Springs, where he was taken into custody on Saturday, November 8. He has since been charged in connection with his father’s death and remains in custody pending court proceedings.

The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory is conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. Officials said the case involved a coordinated effort among investigators from ASP CID Companies A, C, and E, working alongside Van Buren County deputies and the Hot Springs Police Department.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Russell’s passing have deeply affected the close-knit communities of Shirley, Clinton, and Timbo, where both men were well known. Friends and neighbors are remembering Russell not for the way his life ended, but for the kindness and compassion he showed throughout his years.

He will be remembered as a loving father, loyal friend, and kind soul whose presence made life brighter for those around him. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.

May his soul rest peacefully, and may those who loved him find comfort in the many memories they shared.

In Loving Memory of Russell B. Branscum (1957–2025)
Forever loved. Deeply missed. Never forgotten.
