Louisville, Kentucky — As the community comes to terms with a heartbreaking tragedy, the names of those lost have begun to emerge — each one representing a cherished life, a story of love, and a family forever changed.
In the wake of the devastating events, loved ones and local sources have identified several of the victims. Each had their own journey, their own laughter, and their own dreams — all of which touched those around them in lasting ways.
Megan Washburn
A mother, a friend, a hardworking soul — Megan Washburn was a light to everyone who knew her.
She worked as a scrap buyer and customer experience agent at Grade Auto Parts, where she was admired for her dedication and kindness.
Megan was the proud mother of three children — two 20-year-old sons and a 12-year-old daughter — who were the center of her world. She was known for her strength, her laughter, and her unwavering love for her family.
“Megan was the kind of person who gave her all — at work, at home, everywhere,” shared one friend. “She carried others through their storms, even while facing her own.”
Her memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those she leaves behind.
🧰 John Loucks, 52
Known for his humility and steady heart, John Loucks was a heavy equipment operator at Grade Auto Parts and a man deeply respected by his coworkers and community.
John was known for his quiet generosity — always willing to lend a helping hand, expecting nothing in return. Friends describe him as loyal, honest, and hardworking — a man who lived by integrity and compassion.
“John didn’t talk about doing good,” a colleague said softly. “He just did it. That was who he was.”
His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness will endure in the lives of those who knew him best.
👨👧 Matt Sweets
A devoted father, loving partner, and loyal friend — Matt Sweets will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and endless love for his family.
He leaves behind his partner Brooke Murray and their two children, who were his pride and purpose.
A graduate of the University of Louisville School of Business, Matt built his career with hard work and integrity.
Friends recall his ability to light up a room, his laughter echoing long after he left. “He was always the one to lift others up,” one friend shared. “He made you feel seen, no matter who you were.”
Matt’s love and laughter will live on through his children and all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
✈️ Remembering the UPS Crew
Also among those honored in this tragedy are three members of the UPS flight crew, whose dedication and professionalism touched countless lives:
- Captain Richard Wartenberg
- First Officer Lee Truitt
- International Relief Officer Captain Dana Diamond
All three were respected and experienced aviators, remembered for their commitment, leadership, and compassion within the UPS family.
“They represented the very best of us,” a company spokesperson said. “Their devotion to their mission and to one another will never be forgotten.”
