COLUMBUS, GA — The Columbus community is mourning the loss of 30-year-old Demetrius Wilkerson, who passed away early Saturday morning following a violent incident near the Azalea Apartments on Boxwood Boulevard.
According to the Columbus Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Boxwood Blvd. after reports of an altercation involving gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Wilkerson critically injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel.
Investigators have identified 32-year-old Donald Fair as the individual wanted in connection with the case. Warrants have been issued for his arrest on the following charges:
- Murder
- Aggravated Assault (2 counts)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
Detectives believe the incident stemmed from a drive-by encounter outside the apartment complex. Authorities continue to search for Fair and are urging anyone with information to contact Sgt. R.
