MONTGOMERY, AL — The Montgomery community is reeling from a heartbreaking tragedy following the untimely death of 30-year-old Crishara Sterling, who lost her life in a devastating single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning, June 21, 2025.

The fatal incident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on a quiet stretch of the South Boulevard near Woodley Road. According to preliminary reports from the Montgomery Police Department, Sterling was the sole occupant of a vehicle that veered off the roadway and crashed into a utility pole before coming to rest in a nearby ditch. First responders arrived swiftly at the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting the sound of a loud collision.

Despite efforts by emergency crews to revive her, Crishara Sterling was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. Authorities have not yet released details on the possible cause of the crash, though they noted that speed may have been a contributing factor. Investigators are also awaiting toxicology results as part of their standard procedure in fatal crash investigations.

Crishara Sterling, affectionately known as “Shara” to her family and close friends, was a lifelong resident of Montgomery. Those who knew her best described her as a beacon of warmth, loyalty, and humor — a woman who always made time for others and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. She graduated from Jefferson Davis High School and later earned her associate’s degree from Trenholm State Community College. She was working in healthcare administration and had dreams of starting her own business one day.

Friends say Sterling had a deep love for music, Sunday cookouts with family, and mentoring young women in her neighborhood. “She was that person you could always count on,” said longtime friend Kayla Jennings. “If you were having a bad day, Shara would crack a joke or just sit with you. Her presence was healing.”

Her sudden passing has left a gaping hole in the lives of her family, friends, and all who knew her. Many have taken to social media to share tributes, photos, and stories, celebrating her vibrant spirit and the indelible mark she left behind.

Sterling is survived by her mother, Lisa Sterling, her younger brother Marlon, and a large extended family. Her father, Christopher Sterling, preceded her in death. In a statement, the Sterling family expressed their deep sorrow and thanked the community for the outpouring of love and support during this painful time.

“We are completely heartbroken. Crishara was the light of our lives. Her smile, her laughter, and her love will never be forgotten,” the family wrote.

A candlelight vigil in Sterling’s memory is being organized for Wednesday evening at Riverfront Park, where friends, family, and community members are expected to gather to remember her life and mourn her passing. Funeral arrangements are currently being finalized and will be announced in the coming days.

As Montgomery mourns this devastating loss, authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information is encouraged to contact the Montgomery Police Department.

Crishara Sterling’s death is a tragic reminder of how fleeting life can be and the importance of cherishing those we love. She will be remembered not only for how she died, but for how she lived — with grace, kindness, and an enduring commitment to those she cared about.
