Tragedy in Detroit: Man on Bike Fatally Struck in Apparent Hit-and-Run Involving City Bus
DETROIT, MI — July 4, 2025 — A devastating scene unfolded in the early morning hours of Independence Day after a man was fatally struck in what witnesses are describing as a hit-and-run involving a Detroit city bus.
The collision occurred near the intersection of Baldwin and Rundell, shortly after 12:20 a.m., according to bystanders who were at the scene. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was reportedly riding a bike when he was hit. He died at the scene from what witnesses say were catastrophic head injuries.
“I pulled over to check, and his brains were on the side of his head,” one witness said. “People came running out from the barbershop parking lot saying a city bus hit him and kept going. It’s sad as hell.”
Several individuals from nearby businesses and homes rushed to the scene in shock as emergency services were called. Detroit Police Department officers arrived shortly after and immediately secured the area. Officials have not yet confirmed whether a city bus was involved, but multiple eyewitnesses gave consistent accounts pointing to a bus fleeing the scene after the crash.
Authorities are reviewing security footage from nearby businesses, including the barbershop, and are working to identify the victim and locate the vehicle involved.
The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) has not issued a public statement as of this writing, but sources say transit officials have been contacted for cooperation in the ongoing investigation.
Call for Justice and Accountability
Community members are expressing frustration and grief over the circumstances of the crash. Social media posts from eyewitnesses and nearby residents quickly circulated in the early morning hours, urging others to check on loved ones and calling for accountability.
“This didn’t have to happen,” one resident wrote online. “If it was a city bus, they need to find out who was driving and why they didn’t stop.”
Detroit Police are asking anyone with information or video footage of the area around Baldwin and Rundell around the time of the incident to contact investigators or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
As the city begins its Fourth of July holiday, a family is mourning a life lost under tragic and unresolved circumstances.
