Family Home Targeted in Overnight Drive-By Shooting While Residents Slept in North Harris County
HARRIS COUNTY, TX — July 24, 2025 — A family is lucky to be alive after gunfire erupted outside their home in the early morning hours Thursday during a frightening drive-by shooting in North Harris County. Deputies say multiple bullets were fired at the residence while the homeowners were asleep inside.
According to the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 24400 block of Beef Canyon Drive just after reports of shots fired rang out. The neighborhood, part of the Villages of Northgate Crossing, was shaken awake by the sound of rapid gunfire.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that an unknown suspect or suspects opened fire on a single-family residence, firing multiple rounds that struck the home’s walls and windows. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
“This was a reckless and dangerous act that could have ended in tragedy,” said Constable Mark Herman. “It is only by pure luck that no one inside the home was hurt. We are working diligently to identify and apprehend whoever is responsible.”
Investigation in Progress
Investigators immediately began processing the scene, recovering multiple shell casings in front of the property. The casings are being analyzed for forensic evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Deputies also went door-to-door throughout the neighborhood, searching for surveillance footage, witnesses, or any information that could help identify the suspect or the vehicle involved. At this time, authorities have not confirmed a suspect or motive and are treating the incident as an active and targeted criminal investigation.
“The residents were asleep at the time of the shooting and did not witness the incident directly,” a precinct spokesperson said. “We’re now relying heavily on neighbors and camera footage to help us piece together what happened.”
Increased Patrols and Community Alert
In response to the shooting, extra patrol units have been assigned to the area to ensure community safety and prevent any potential follow-up violence. Law enforcement officials emphasized that such incidents are taken extremely seriously, and they’re asking for public assistance.
“We understand this incident has left residents feeling unsafe,” Herman added. “We’ve increased patrols in the area and we’re asking anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward immediately.”
