LEWISVILLE, TEXAS — July 24, 2025 — A high-speed pursuit spanning multiple jurisdictions ended in tragedy early Thursday morning after Lewisville Police officers fatally shot a female suspect who allegedly brandished a weapon during an attempted arrest.

According to an official statement released by the Lewisville Police Department (LPD), the incident began shortly after midnight, when an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a woman suspected of having an active felony warrant issued by another law enforcement agency.

While confirming the outstanding warrant, the female driver fled the stop at a high rate of speed, initiating a multi-agency pursuit that covered several North Texas cities. The woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Pursuit Turns Dangerous

As the chase unfolded, the suspect reportedly collided with an LPD patrol unit. Although the crash caused damage to the police vehicle, the officer inside was unharmed and continued the pursuit. The chase concluded in a commercial parking lot located in the 2200 block of the southbound I-35E service road in Lewisville.

At that location, officers attempted to take the woman into custody. According to the department’s preliminary findings, the suspect pulled out a handgun and refused to comply with multiple verbal commands to disarm.

LPD officers then fired their weapons, striking the woman.

Lifesaving Efforts Made, But Suspect Dies at Hospital

Police officers at the scene immediately rendered emergency medical aid. First responders from the Lewisville Fire Department arrived shortly afterward and transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead just after 1:00 a.m.

A handgun was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle at the scene.

No Injuries to Officers or Civilians

LPD confirmed that no officers or civilians were injured during the incident. The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been publicly released and will be confirmed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office following notification of her next of kin.

Investigations Underway

In accordance with department policy, the four LPD officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a formal investigation.

LPD has also requested that the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Texas Rangers Division conduct an independent criminal investigation, while the department’s Internal Affairs Unit will handle an administrative review to determine whether use-of-force protocols were properly followed.

“This was a serious and complex incident that requires a thorough review,” said Chief Kevin Deaver of the Lewisville Police Department. “We are committed to transparency and accountability, and we will cooperate fully with the Texas Rangers to ensure all facts are brought to light.”

Traffic Impact and Public Safety Notice

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, portions of the southbound I-35E service road were closed while investigators processed the scene. Motorists were advised to take alternate routes for their Thursday morning commute. As of Thursday afternoon, all roads have been reopened.

Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to public safety and that the area is secure.

Residents with information or potential video footage related to the incident are encouraged to contact the Lewisville Police Department.
