Danville Mourns Loss of 23-Year-Old Ketasha Fuller in Early Morning Shooting

DANVILLE, VA — July 27, 2025 — What began as a summer night gathering on Cooper Street ended in tragedy, as Ketasha Fuller, a 23-year-old woman visiting from Paris, New York, was fatally shot just after 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. She had returned to her hometown of Danville, Virginia, to reconnect with friends and family—only to lose her life in a senseless act of violence.

According to the Danville Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Cooper Street around 3:36 a.m. in response to a noise complaint. A group had gathered in the area, and officers successfully dispersed the crowd without any reported conflict.

Just minutes after leaving, a single gunshot shattered the quiet. Officers immediately turned back.

When officers returned, they found Ketasha Fuller lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound. First responders quickly provided medical assistance, and she was transported to a nearby hospital. Sadly, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police reviewed video footage captured at the scene, which showed Ketasha in a heated argument with a man shortly before the shooting. The suspect can be seen pulling a firearm and firing a single round. He then fled the area. Authorities have not released his identity and have not confirmed whether he has been located or arrested.

Ketasha Fuller was known to many in Danville, despite having recently moved to Paris, New York, where she had been working and building a new life. Friends say she had returned home to visit loved ones over the summer.

Her death has left two communities reeling. In Danville, where she was raised, and in New York, where she was forging a path forward, people are mourning a young woman described as kind, outspoken, and full of potential.

“She had a huge heart,” said one family friend. “She was visiting for love, and now we’re preparing to bury her. It’s heartbreaking.”

Social media has been filled with tributes to Ketasha, with friends and relatives demanding justice and expressing disbelief that such a tragedy could happen so quickly and without warning.

The Danville Police Department continues to investigate the shooting and is calling on anyone who may have witnessed the argument, heard the gunshot, or knows the suspect to come forward. Authorities say even the smallest piece of information could make a difference.

“We are working around the clock to find the person responsible for this senseless killing,” said a spokesperson for the department. “We need the community’s help to bring justice to Ketasha’s family.”
