SHREVEPORT, La. — A teenage girl is dead after being shot in the head early Sunday morning outside a vape shop on North Market Street, according to the Shreveport Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the area of North Market and Barton Drive, a location known for late-night business activity. Emergency crews responded quickly after 911 calls reported gunfire in the vicinity of a vape shop operating nearby.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the teenage female suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name pending notification of family. No information has been made available regarding her age beyond the confirmation that she was a teenager.

Investigation Ongoing

Detectives with the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit are actively investigating the case. Investigators worked through the night gathering evidence, speaking to witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses in hopes of identifying a suspect or motive.

“At this time, we are still working to determine exactly what led to the shooting and who may be responsible,” a department spokesperson said Sunday morning.

No suspects have been named, and no arrests have been made as of this report.

Police have not said whether the shooting was targeted or random. It’s unclear if the victim was inside the shop or in the parking lot at the time she was shot.

Community in Shock

The incident has sent waves of grief and outrage through the Shreveport community, as yet another young life has been claimed by gun violence.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said a nearby resident who declined to be named. “A young girl — someone’s daughter — is gone. This kind of violence is tearing our community apart.”

Local leaders and anti-violence advocates are once again calling for action, pointing to the growing number of shootings involving teenagers in recent months.
