NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 20-year-old Nashville woman lost her life following a shooting that erupted during a block party in East Nashville on Saturday night, according to Metro Nashville Police Department officials.
Authorities were dispatched shortly after 11:15 p.m. to the 2400 block of Oakwood Avenue in response to multiple reports of gunfire disturbing what had been a community gathering. The festive event turned deadly in an instant, leaving the neighborhood shaken and searching for answers.
Victim and Incident Details
Police discovered Nevaeh Wilson suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower back. Investigators believe Wilson was attempting to flee the chaos when she was struck by gunfire. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at TriStar Skyline Medical Center, marking a devastating loss for the Nashville community.
In addition to Ms. Wilson, a 24-year-old man also sustained a gunshot wound to his back during the incident. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center via a personal vehicle. His injuries are reported as non-life-threatening. Notably, this individual reportedly attended the block party but has refused to cooperate with investigators, declining to provide any information regarding the shooting.
