Remembering Robert Joseph Blanke, III: A Life of Heart, Humor, and Family
Born on September 28, 1981, in Cumberland, Maryland, Rob was the beloved son of Robert Joseph Blanke, Jr. and Linda Herzberg Blanke. He spent his early years in Illinois and graduated from Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. His academic and professional journey led him to North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from NC State University—a place that would become central to both his career and his family life.
A Mind for Technology, A Heart for Family
Following his graduation, Rob began his career in IT and returned to NC State to serve as a Senior Systems Programmer. Known for his sharp mind, technical expertise, and collaborative spirit, Rob was a respected and valued team member who thrived in problem-solving environments.
Outside of work, Rob was a loving husband to Megan Hoyle Blanke and a devoted father to their two sons, Landon and Ethan. Whether he was building custom PCs with his boys, playing video games by their side, or spending time on the lake, Rob’s greatest joy came from being with his family. His loyal dog, Oliver, was never far from his side—a bond that reflected Rob’s deep affection for animals, especially rescue dogs.
In Every Memory, a Smile
Friends and family remember Rob as a proud “coffee snob” who found delight in the perfect brew. He had a dry, quick wit, a soft spot for the underdog, and a passion for all things tech. Whether donning one of his many Chicago Cubs hats or sharing his latest project, Rob exuded authenticity and curiosity. He made people feel heard, supported, and loved.
Rob was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert Blanke, Sr., Leola Blanke, Maurice Herzberg, and Sarah Herzberg. He is survived by his loving wife and children; his parents; his sisters Martha McClure (Mitch) and Megan Kass (Nico); and nieces and nephews Ava McClure, Aiden McClure, Tara Kass, and Calvin Kass.
Celebration of Life and Legacy
To honor Rob’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Fortnight Brewery in Cary. Friends, family, and coworkers are invited to join in remembrance, sharing stories and toasting to the life of a man who gave so much to so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Crisis Dogs NC, a cause close to Rob’s heart that rescues and rehomes dogs across North Carolina.
“Those we love never truly leave us. There are things that death cannot touch.”
Rob’s memory lives on in his family, in his sons’ laughter, in every carefully tuned line of code, and in every cup of strong black coffee brewed with care.
