CHARLOTTE MAN KILLED IN GRISLY ATTACK NEAR NODA; HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – August 4, 2025 — A complex and deeply unsettling homicide investigation is now underway following the tragic and violent death of Jeremy Mouzon, 44, a Charlotte resident who was found fatally wounded in the early morning hours of Sunday near the popular NoDa neighborhood.

Disturbing Discovery in Northeast Charlotte

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), officers were dispatched around 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, to the 3500 block of North Davidson Street after receiving reports of a man lying unresponsive near a dimly lit section of the road. First responders arrived to find Mouzon suffering from multiple traumatic injuries, including stab wounds and apparent blunt force trauma consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Paramedics attempted life-saving efforts, but Jeremy Mouzon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Double-Crime Theory: Stabbing and Hit-and-Run

Preliminary findings from the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the dual nature of Mouzon’s injuries, describing the attack as “vicious” and “deliberate.” Police now believe Mouzon may have first been stabbed during an altercation and then intentionally run over by a vehicle in a targeted assault.

“This is one of the more unusual and disturbing cases we’ve seen recently,” said CMPD Major T.J. Tanner during a press briefing. “It appears the victim was not only violently attacked, but efforts were made to ensure he would not survive.”

Community Shaken Near NoDa

The incident occurred just blocks from the heart of the NoDa Arts District — a vibrant, walkable community known for its creative spaces, nightlife, and public murals. The juxtaposition of this brutal act in such a lively area has left local residents shaken and demanding answers.

“This is horrifying,” said one resident who lives nearby. “To think this happened steps away from where people are usually out enjoying their Saturday night — it’s terrifying.”

Investigation and Leads

Detectives with CMPD’s Homicide Unit are canvassing the area for witnesses and video surveillance footage. They are particularly interested in any dashcam or business security camera footage that might have captured the moments before or after the attack.
