An active shooter situation rocked Fort Stewart, one of the largest U.S. Army installations, on Thursday morning, leaving five soldiers shot and sparking a full-scale emergency response across the base.
The incident began shortly after 10:30 AM when reports emerged of gunfire within a restricted operational zone on the installation. Base authorities quickly confirmed the presence of an active shooter, prompting an immediate lockdown of key facilities.
Military police and emergency responders were on scene within minutes. The suspected shooter, identified preliminarily as a fellow service member, was apprehended without further incident. Authorities have not yet released the individual’s name pending formal charges and notification of next of kin.
The five wounded soldiers were rushed to the Winn Army Community Hospital and nearby civilian trauma centers. As of this report, two are in critical condition, while three others are listed as stable.

“We are deeply saddened by today’s events,” said Maj. Gen. Curtis Graham, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division. “Our focus right now is on the care of our wounded soldiers, supporting their families, and ensuring the safety and well-being of our entire installation.”
Security has since been restored, and operations at Fort Stewart have resumed under heightened alert. Soldiers and civilian employees were advised to remain vigilant and utilize available support services.

The shooting has triggered renewed scrutiny of internal safety protocols at U.S. military installations. Fort Stewart, located near Hinesville, Georgia, is home to tens of thousands of soldiers and support personnel and serves as a key hub for training and deployment readiness.
