INDIANAPOLIS, IN — August, 2025 — A devastating tragedy unfolded Saturday evening on the northwest side of Indianapolis when 19-year-old Scott Anthony Foor Jr., a young father, was fatally shot outside a Family Dollar store after what authorities describe as a disturbance inside the business.

The incident occurred at the Family Dollar located in the 6000 block of Michigan Road. According to his mother, Scott had just finished a visit with his daughter at Smiley Park and had stopped at the store to buy diapers when he encountered someone he knew inside.

A Final Errand Turns Tragic

Scott’s family says he never intended to stay long. “He just needed diapers for his little girl,” his mother said. “He was a good dad. He was always trying his best.” But what should have been a routine stop ended in gunfire after a brief altercation inside the store turned deadly. Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots ring out just outside the entrance.

When police and medics arrived, they found Scott critically injured. Despite emergency life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) quickly launched a homicide investigation. Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the store that escalated quickly once Scott exited the building. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and have asked for the public’s help in identifying any suspects.

At this time, no arrests have been announced, and police have not released details about the suspected shooter or a possible motive.

A Community in Mourning

The sudden loss of Scott Foor Jr. has left his family and community in shock. Vigils have already been planned in his memory, and loved ones are calling for justice. “He had his whole life ahead of him,” said one family friend. “He was just a kid taking care of his own kid.”

Scott is remembered as a devoted father, a loving son, and a respectful young man who stayed out of trouble and focused on his family. Photos shared online show him holding his baby daughter and smiling — moments his family says they will now hold onto forever.

Call for Justice

The community and police are asking for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Tips can be submitted to Detective Kevin Roell at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or via Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477).

This tragedy has once again underscored the persistent issue of gun violence affecting young lives in Indianapolis. As the investigation continues, Scott’s family is left with only memories and a heartbreaking call for justice.
