TEMPLE, TX — In the late hours of Thursday night, a tense and heartbreaking standoff outside the Temple Police Headquarters ended in tragedy when officers fatally shot a man after he threatened his own life and later aimed a gun at law enforcement.

Authorities say the incident began when officers were called to the scene after reports of a man holding a firearm to his own head, demanding that police shoot him. Officers spent a prolonged period attempting to de-escalate the tense situation, engaging with the man to persuade him to surrender peacefully.

Despite their efforts, the man suddenly turned the weapon toward officers, forcing them to respond with deadly force to protect themselves and the public. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
