Rochester, N.Y. — Police have confirmed the identity of the man killed in a late-night shooting Friday on North Clinton Avenue near Mazda Terrace as 44-year-old Maurice Streeter, a Rochester resident remembered by loved ones for his kindness and dedication to family.

Authorities say officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly before midnight. When they arrived, they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Streeter was gravely injured and despite immediate life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three others — all adult men — were transported to area hospitals with injuries that police say are not life-threatening. They are expected to make full recoveries.

Investigation Underway

Detectives believe the shooting was targeted, though the motive remains unclear. As of Saturday evening, no arrests had been announced. Police confirmed that surveillance footage from businesses in the area is being reviewed, and officers have canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses.

“This is another senseless act of violence that has left a family grieving and a community shaken,” Rochester Police Chief David Smith said in a statement. “Our detectives are working tirelessly to find those responsible and bring justice to the Streeter family.”

Community in Mourning

Streeter’s death has left his family, friends, and neighbors devastated. Loved ones described him as a man of compassion who was always willing to help others.

“Maurice was someone who brought light into every room,” a close friend said. “He cared deeply for people, and his loss leaves a hole that can’t be filled.”

Community leaders have also spoken out, emphasizing the urgent need for continued anti-violence initiatives in Rochester. Local outreach organizations say they are committed to supporting Streeter’s family and the other victims of Friday’s attack.

Ongoing Gun Violence Concerns

The shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have rocked Rochester neighborhoods this summer. Residents have expressed growing concerns over safety and are calling for stronger community-based prevention programs alongside law enforcement efforts.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact 911, the Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, or Crime Stoppers at (585) 423-9300.

As the investigation continues, those who knew Maurice Streeter say they want him to be remembered not for the tragic way he died, but for the kindness, generosity, and love he shared throughout his life.
